There were periods in Joe’s artistic life where he explored specific themes. Their origins were typically from the creative unconscious mind. He would see something thematic and want to explore it consciously, as both a self-exploration and an artistic expression.
A body of work would evolve that had a theme or a unifying technique. These periods lasted from months to as much as nine years. As one phase passed, another would inevitably be born. Spontaneity…the unplanned…was his ideal as an artist. “Creative play” was always a source for “creative victories”.
He went with his own flow, allowing room for his unconscious mind to express itself. Hundreds of works were created over a span of about 70 years. Many are unaccounted for! They are arranged in groups to facilitate your exploration.
